RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks and United Services Automobile Association (USAA) hosted more than 100 Sailors stationed in the Pacific Northwest Aug. 21, for the team’s practice at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, Wash.

The Sailors were able to watch the Seahawks run plays at practice and have a meet and greet with the players after the practice was completed.

“We wanted to show the Navy how much we really do appreciate all they do,” said Jeffrey C. Battle, military affairs, USAA. “It’s always a good time for the troops to see the players, and the players to get to interact with the troops. It’s a win for everyone.”

Following the conclusion of practice, Sailors lined up to meet with the players and coaches.

“It’s a great experience to see these guys in person,” said Yeoman 1st Class (SW) Thomas Jenkins. “It was cool that they brought us in and treated us so well.”

Members of the Seahawks staff said they enjoyed the day just as much as the Sailors.

“It’s awesome to have the Sailors and our players out here interacting,” said Shaun Angell, corporate sponsors account manager, Seattle Seahawks. “Coach Carroll really has a lot of respect for our military and so do the players here.

“There’s nothing more American than the military and football, so the fact that we could combine the two was perfect,” said Angell.

The Seahawks and USAA also provided the Sailors with a Seahawks military appreciation coin.
