OLYMPIA, Wash. – The U.S. Navy was honored during the state of Washington’s 10th annual Navy Appreciation Day in the state’s capital of Olympia, March 10.
Sailors representing Navy Region Northwest met with government officials in the state Senate and House Chambers, where members gave personal accounts of how the Navy has impacted their lives and the state.
“My father served the Navy proudly,” said Frank Chopp, Speaker of the House. “The Navy has a major impact and presence in the state and we make a day to thank our Sailors who serve our country [and state].”
Sailors assigned to Naval Hospital Bremerton and Navy Band Northwest also attended the ceremony.
Navy Region Northwest currently hosts the country’s third largest fleet concentration with four installations within the state of Washington, and will be an integral part of strengthening the re-balance of the Pacific, said Rear Adm. Bette Bolivar, commander, NRNW.
“Our success here is a direct reflection of support from all of our service members, their families and the people of the state of Washington,” continued Bolivar.
